As a sculptor, I want to show animal life in a way that will attract attention and prod a smile to see and honor the life around us. Sometimes the sculpture is humourus, sometimes an abstraction of characteristic elements, sometimes a moment frozen in time, or all three. The work is based on study in nature, in zoos and in books.
I began over thirty years ago, teaching myself the skills needed to work with tools and wood. Along the way I participated in seminars and workshops to improve techniques and expand my horizons. I am a juried member of The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, The Vermont State Craft Centers, The Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, and The Maine Crafts Association. My sculpture is in several published books and in numerous private collections.

I have always loved wood. Wood is a wonderful material: living, colorful, visually and tactually interesting. When I bring a piece of wood into my studio I let it acclimate and dry. We get acquainted for a while, perhaps a long while. Some pieces wait for years before I see who they contain. Some are clearly a particular being, while others reveal themselves as I work. Finding the being within is an exciting process.
Birds, animals and fish are my chosen subjects. From childhood, I have observed, enjoyed, befriended and communicated with animals. Some have lived in my house, others on my farm, many more in the wild or with friends.
